Following our very enjoyable and successful outing as Pirates (and you can choose which meaning of ‘outing’ you prefer) on Saturday, this week’s songlist is a Motown-free zone although we may go for some in the second half!

List for the first half should closely approximate to:

You’re so vain
Take it easy
Sha La La La Lee
Going to the Chapel
Running Bear
Viva La Vida
Space oddity
Mr Tambourine Man
Pencil Full of Lead
The Cave
Maggie May
I Useta Love Her
The Free Electric Band

As ever, second half off-piste.

Hope to see you at The Lamplighter Pub from around 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Thursday.

Hi Everyone

Only going to be a quick email tonight I hope.

Before we get onto this weeks songs there are a couple more gigs we have lined up. The first is on October 7th and will be at a wedding, not just any wedding but Colins daughter, please keep this date free and let Mick Colin or myself know if you are available. It will be a very special day for everyone there.
The second gig is way in the future and will be December 7th at Duston WI I think there will only be room for 10 or 12 people to play but another date for your diary.

Ok onto the songlist, it was suggested that when we go over to Isham on September 9th to the “Strum like a pirate” day, don’t forget there is a prize for the best dressed pirate so get out your pirate hats, eye patches, wooden legs and stuffed parrots. Anyway I digress so back to the songlist It was suggested last week that for something different we do a set of our “Soul” songs, I will assume that most groups do newer songs now or the standard old ones there probably aren’t going to many songs like the list below. It was only a suggestion and don’t forget we are a totally democratic group so if you hae nay other suggestions please let us know.

Heaven must have sent you
Love really hurts without you
The snake
You to me are everything
Young hearts run free
Hooked on a feeling
Red light spells danger
River deep
Sugar pie
Your too good to be true

The three songs we are leading everyone else on are

Proud Mary
lighthouse
Irish Rover

See you all on Thursday

Ian & Mick

there might be a new book out this week if I pull my finger out

Hi Everyone

Wendy has contacted Harpole scarecrow festival to find out when they were expecting us and we are waiting to hear back. On the same weekend is the Burton Latimer ukulele festival not sure how people feel about doing both either on different days or both on the Saturday, let me know.
Bardlaugh fields community day is on 5th August I need to check on timings but should know by Thursday.
Blisworth canal festival 12th August we will be playing at around 7pm we will need to know how many we are likely to have coming, it should be a great night.

Ok onto the songlist, Wendy has picked these with nothing more than she thinks we play them well and they are in alphabetical order to make it easier for me and she did say she would lead them

500 Miles
Best day of my life
Black velvet band
Blame it on me
Brand new day
Don’t marry her
Eight days a week
Galway girl
House of gold
Leaving on a jet plane

  • Event is the Bethany Summer Fayre
  • Runs from 2.30- 4.30 BUT
  • We have been asked to set up from 2.00 so can we meet then please.
  • Best way to find it is to go along St Georges Avenue with the racecourse on your left – first set of lights turn right into Trinity Avenue and the home is on your right. You should be able to park on the road itself but if not, just past the home on the same side is Fairfields School and we can park in there.
  • If you’ve got one, NUGs shirts to be worn.
  • we should be playing on a raised terrace which acts as a sort of stage.
  • There will be no sound system and if its windy we tend to disappear into the ether so be ready to sing up!
  • On the subject of wind – it will be blowy so the most important bit of travelling minstrel gear you need for the day is CLOTHES PEGS!!
  • I will be bringing copies of the new “GigBook” so your second most important piece of kit (if you have one) is a stand. Don’t worry if not – there will be spares.

We will probably do two sessions of 30-40 minutes with a break of similar length in-between.

The following is mostly in book order and takes due account of the likely vintage of the audience:

Part One

Bad Moon Rising

California Girls

Dedicated Follower of Fashion

Eight Days a Week

Galway Girl

What a day for a Daydream

Running Bear

Delilah

 Part Two

I can see clearly now

I’m a Believer

In the Summertime

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Maxwell’s Silver Hammer

Octopus’s Garden

Sunny Afternoon

Sweet Caroline

Where do you go to my lovely?

In reserve in case of a sudden outbreak of enthusiasm:

Those were the days

Macnamara’s Band

I think that covers everything. My mobile in case any problems is: 07795 348578

See you tomorrow.

Mick
